How To Stay On Top Of Your Workout Motivation In The Winter

By Jessica Miller,
Let’s be honest; very few people like the winter months. The days are cold, the mornings are dark, and the evenings seem to pass by in seconds. Of course, while most people decide to simply sit by the fire and curl up with a movie when winter comes around, there are others who don’t like to break their routine – especially when it comes to their workouts. It can be difficult to find the motivation to get out of bed and into the cold when the weather begins to turn, though, so how can you stay on top of that workout motivation?

Work out with a friend

One of the best ways to stay motivated for any kind of workout is to buddy up and find a friend you can exercise with. Not only does this force you to deal with the fact that someone else is relying on you to get out into the cold and work up a sweat, but this also gives you the chance to enjoy it more. After all, it can be difficult to leave a warm bed, but if you know that you’re going to be having a gossip with your friend as you make your way out of the house, it will all be worth it.

Buy the right gear

If you have ever bought new workout gear, you’ll know that it’s pretty exciting. In fact, most people want to whip the clothes on right away and head out into the open to give it a whirl. This can also be the case when it comes to the winter months. Although there’s no doubt about the fact that it’s cold, buying the right gear and clothes that will keep you warm while you’re working out can give you the push to go outside. After all, feeling good and confident can be the biggest motivator.

Follow the 5-minute rule

It’s difficult to find the motivation to work out when you just really don’t want to, and although most people would say that you just need to push through the pain and go ahead with it, that sometimes doesn’t work in your favor. This rule says that you should get yourself out of bed and start working out whether you like it or not. Yet, if five minutes passes and you still have no motivation to continue, there’s no point in doing so. You can just try again the next day.

Make a new routine

If you’re the kind of person that loves to work out, there’s a high chance that you’re used to doing the same kind of workouts. After all, most people stick to what they know. However, this can often become tiresome and boring, and this can lead many people to a loss of motivation – especially in the winter months. So, it might be an idea to start looking into a new routine and trying some new classes.

If you struggle to stay motivated in the winter months, these tips will get you out of bed in no time.
