Getting Better Sleep Is More Than Purchasing A New Duvet

Getting Better Sleep Is More Than Purchasing A New Duvet

Many of us can often disregard just how important our sleep is to our everyday functioning and careful wellbeing. In fact, this attitude runs so deep that even professional athletes, whom you may consider to be some of the people who absolutely value their sleep thoroughly, find a sense of achievement in going without rest and instead training and following their hectic workout schedule.

However, sleep is one of the most important things anyone could improve. It is one third of our lives. Sleep has a major restorative function to our minds, our bodies, and our spirits. Additionally, getting better sleep is also something that can help you reduce stress and come into each day feeling refreshed, able to focus on that timespan as its own entity.

Getting better sleep is more than purchasing a new duvet, although this can be a good start. With our following advice, you’ll understand why that is. We only hope it can help you finally get the great sleep you truly deserve:

Be Regular With Your Hours

It’s important to consider your sleep time as something you ‘clock into’ at the same time most days, but instead of the negative connotation associated with work, this time you get to rest. However, it’s essential that you do this regularly. Your circadian rhythm is an excellent and often quite powerful thing. But it cannot work magic. This means that you need to be regular with your hours. Go to bed at the same time each night, and do your best to wake up at the same time each morning. Within a week of following this you will never need to use an alarm clock, although using one is a useful process. This is because adapting yourself to this sleep cycle will help you go to sleep more easily at the correct time, while also helping you feel more comfortable waking up at the time you hope to.

Care For Your Physical Health

Physical health is something that can often prevent someone from getting the sleep they need. Sedentary living is often associated with poorer sleep quality, so getting some good exercise in can potentially help you feel more comfortable and ready to gain the energy from a nice sleep. Additionally, being hydrated is also a good idea. On top of that, a nice shower before bed can lead to a massive heat dump from your body when it’s time to relax, which actually cools you and thus helps sleep become more reliable.

Additionally, it might be that pains and aches are causing you to sleep less soundly than you would like. This is where methods such as purchasing curved pillows that help support you, using chiropractor services to help you recover from an injury or perhaps letting your partner know your physical needs can help you negotiate who needs what side of the bed to sleep on.

Stay Away From Electrical Devices

Electrical devices do not help late at night. In fact, they can hinder your natural tendency to relax and feel comfortable in yourself late at night. Staying away from electrical devices is a worthwhile thing to implement. Place your phone at the end of the room away from your bed and set an alarm. This also means that when your alarm  goes off in the morning, you will be more motivated to get out of bed and walk to the other side of the room to turn it off, helping you avoid hitting the snooze button time and time again.

Additionally, late at night, blue light can actually interfere with your circadian rhythm. Free programs such as Flux identify when the sunset occurs in your location and then slowly turns your screen a lighter shade of amber to help offset the blue light effects completely. Still, having time to read, meditate and generally relax before bedtime is something that many appreciate, because it can help you stop scrolling through arguments on Twitter and instead helps you focus on something that will not only help you sleep more easily, but will reduce your stress as well.

Keep Trying

We can often feel that simply because we had a rough night sleep last night, that we are somehow unable to make this work in the future. Just keep at it. Speak to a sleep doctor if necessary. If you can do this, you will be on the right track.

With these tips, we hope you can gain the best sleep possible, the sleep you absolutely deserve.
