How Dehydration Is Ruining Your Day And How to Fix It

Have you been feeling extra tired recently? The cause of that might be easier to fix than you think. There is a good chance your body is just dehydrated and you're not getting enough water. Dehydration could actually be ruining your day and here’s how to fix the problem.

What is dehydration?

Dehydration is when your body is losing more fluid than it takes in, and it can become a serious issue. Ignored dehydration can make you feel lousy and is potentially life-threatening, so making sure you keep hydrated is important. When you’re lacking in the water you can become tired more easily, you don’t digest your food properly, and you can't perform to your usual high standards.

Our bodies are primarily made up of water, so when we start to lack that vital mineral we begin to suffer. Water gives us energy and helps us to control our temperatures. When dehydrated, our mouths can feel dry, indicating we are thirsty, but if we ignore those signs we can begin to forget how to understand this signal. Losing one liter of water fatigues us quicker and can even make us feel weaker. If we are in a water deficit of five liters, we can begin to feel dizzy, more fatigued, and it’s likely we’ll be running a fever.

Everyday struggles

While extreme dehydration can result in a trip to the hospital, even being dehydrated slightly can have adverse effects on our bodies. Have you been struggling to keep up with your work recently? Sure you might be snowed under, but if you aren't drinking enough water the task of getting everything done is going to be harder. You'll struggle to concentrate and you will feel less comfortable, making you more irritable while slowing you down. Luckily there is a cure for dehydration and a few ways to spot if that’s what your issue is.

The signs

If you are feeling thirsty, or your urine is dark yellow, then you're likely suffering from dehydration. Feeling more tired than usual, or having dry lips, eyes, and mouth are also indications your body is needing more water. You may also feel hungry or eat more than usual, which is a telltale sign of dehydration. Finally, you should be going to the toilet at least four times per day. If all of these things are sounding familiar, then you should add more water to your life.

Fixing it

If you start to feel the symptoms of dehydration, you should try and drink more water. That might be pretty obvious by this point, but the best way to take the water in is to take small and regular sips, gradually increasing the amount you drink. If your energy levels are at a real low, drink electrolyte-rich drinks used for sports recovery, or suck on a popsicle made from real fruit juice.

A lot of people are dehydrated and they don't even know it, and that is what is ruining their days. Adding more water to your life will not only make you feel better, but you will be healthier too.
